discount hotels in StuttgartJudy is the wife and mother who takes full responsibility for earning an income to support her family. She is no longer timid or frightened since her character began to transform in the hands of female performers in the 70's and 80's. A good thinker and a good talker, she depends entirely on her husband Mr Punch to take care of the household while she is at work. When she returns to hear that the Baby is helping the Crocodile clean up the river she calls the police and has a cup of tea, remaining calm at all times. It is Judy in the end who finds the baby and brings about the happy ending after a bit of a wild goose chase and pantomime run around. Paper mache head painted with acrylic paint and PVA glue. The body glove consists of a cotton lining and purple acrylic outer costume and a bonnet-style lace head piece. She has foam rubber hands. This character handles several props including the telephone, the cup of tea and a can of sausages. The telephone ofcourse is a modern invention and not part of the traditional story. The cup of tea is my own contribution to the developing story providing a little bit of action and a minor side plot that involves not only the crocodile but the policeman too. The sausages however have been a part of the Punch and Judy story for a long time. They represent the days earnings which unfortunately end up becoming a snack for an otherwise well behaved crocodile. The benefit of a glove puppet is that having your own hand inside it, it is possible to handle things, unlike with a rod puppet where the hand of the puppeteer is at a distance from the puppet. |
