June 25, 2002 "The Past in the Present Shedid's Egypt" Painting Exhibition

The Embassy of Egypt held an exhibition of the paintings of Dr. Abdel Ghaffar Shedid. Titled "The Past in the Present-Shedid's Egypt" , the exhibition opened on June 25, 2002 at the Chancery. Dr. Shedid an eminent scholar and celebrated contemporary artist in Egypt and Europe has exhibited extensively in Paris, Munich, Rome and Cairo in the last 40 years. He is a professor of Art, History and Egyptology in the Academy of Art, Helwan University in Egypt and in Munich University in Germany. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Elkhashab, Cultural Counselor and Director of the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau attended the exhibition.


June 27, 2002 The Quest for Immortality: Treasures of Ancient Egypt Exhibition at the National Gallery of Art

Egypt has loaned a largest selection of antiquities for exhibition at the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. The Exhibition titled "Quest for Immortality: Treasures of Ancient Egypt" included objects that have never been on public display and many that have never been seen outside Egypt. 115 magnificent objects are loaned by the Egyptian government and come from the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, Luxor Museum and the site of Deir el-Bahari. A life size reconstruction of the burial chamber of the Pharaoh Thutmose III was part of the exhibition. The Quest for Immortality is the Gallery's fourth exhibition dedicated to the ancient art of Egypt. The exhibition is open to the public from June 30 through October 14, 2002. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Elkhashab, Cultural Counselor and Director of the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau attended the gala reception for the opening of the exhibition on June 27th 2002.


July 2, 2002 Model Schools Conference

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Elkhashab, the new Cultural and Educational Counselor and the Director of the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau served as a panelist for the International Education Forum during the Model Schools Conference held at the Washington Hilton and Towers on July 2, 2002. Education experts from Germany, Argentina, China and England joined Dr. Elkhashab in the panel in the discussion of critical topics of concern to American educators such as accountability, character of education, education and work and educational leadership. The forum was aimed at providing conference participants an opportunity to gain a broader perspective on the future for education, society and global cooperation from the panelists.


April 25, 2002 Dr. Thoraya Obeid at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy

The Washington Institute for Near East Policy hosted a Special Policy Forum luncheon with Dr. Thoraya Obeid, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund and Undersecretary General of the United Nations. Dr. Obeid delivered a lecture on "Demographic Dynamics in the Middle East: A View from the United Nations". She discussed the emerging demographic trend in the region and their implications for economic and social development. Dr. Obeid is the highest-ranking Arab Muslim woman in the United Nations System. She served as Director of the Europe and Arab states division of UNPA and for 23 years as an official with the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia. Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki, Cultural Counselor and Director of the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau was invited and attended the event.


Monday, April 15 2002 Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki Visits New Jersey Institute of Technology Campus

Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki, Cultural Counselor and Director of the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau visited the New Jersey Institute of Technology on April 15,2002. The purpose of the visit was to explore possibilities of establishing academic cooperation between Egyptian universities and the NJIT. Dr. Zaki met with Dr. Urs Peter Gauchat, Dean of the School of Architecture; Dr. Ronald Kane, Dean of the Graduate Studies and Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs; Dr. Stephen Eck, Director of Graduate Admissions; and Dr. Peter Papademetriou, Director of Graduate Programs. Discussions between the two sides include the placement of Egyptian students at the different Science and Engineering schools at NJIT for continuing graduate education. Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki was also given a tour of the campus.


April 9, 2002 Democracy, Peace and the War on Terror: America and the Middle East, Post-September 11

The Washington Institute for Near East Policy held its 17th Annual SOREF Symposium at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Washington DC on April 9, 2002. Titled "Democracy, Peace and the War on Terror: America and the Middle East, Post-September 11", the symposium invited several guest speakers.
A special address was delivered by H.R.H. Prince Hassan bin Talal of Jordan on "Arabs, Muslims and America, post-September 11"
Also featured during the symposium were other prominent speakers.

April 8, 2002 Reception in honor of two Cairo University Professors

President Stephen Joel Trachtenberg of George Washington University hosted a reception in honor of two distinguished professors from Cairo University, Dr. Attia Affandi and Dr. Laila El Baradei. Drs. Affandi and Baradei were participants of the joint venture between the Public Administration departments of Cairo University and George Washington University. The goal of the partnership is to improve the curricula of the Masters of Public Administration degrees at both universities


Tuesday, April 2, 2002 Prof. Ali Mazrui delivered a lecture at the World Bank

Prof. Ali Mazrui, an Albert Schweitzer Professor of Humanities and Director of the Institute of Global Cultural Studies at Binghamton University in New York delivered a lecture at the World Bank on April 2, 2002. Dr. Mazrui talked on "From Structural Adjustment to the Sacred Adjustment: Globalization and the New Sectarian Politics in Africa." The lecture was organized by the World Bank Office of the Publisher and the WB/IMF Africa Club. Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki, Cultural Counselor at the Embassy of Egypt attended the event.

The Egypt Development Training II of the Institute of International Education (IIE) hosted a reception in honor of the Egyptian visitors participating in the Women's Business Center and Business Information Center Programs on March 29, 2002. The event took place at the IIE office in Washington DC. Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki was invited and attended the event.


February 6, 2002 Luncheon Discussion at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy

Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki attended a special Policy forum luncheon discussion hosted by the Washington Institute for Near East Policy on February 6, 2002. The discussion dealt with the "Israeli Defense Policy: Responding to Challenges Near and Far". Guest speaker for the occasion was Israel's Minister of Defense, The Honorable Binyamin Ben-Eliezer. The special Policy Forum discussed Israel's response to the array of challenges Israel is facing right now.


January 31, 2002 Embassy of Egypt holds discussion for Egyptian nationals in the US

Ambassador Nabil Fahmy hosted a discussion specifically for Egyptian nationals living in the United States with guest speakers Dr. Ahmed K. Aboulmagd and Dr. Milad Hanna. The discussion talks about Egypt and the clash of civilizations in Egypt. The event took place at the Embassy of Egypt on January 31, 2002. Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki participated in the discussion.


January 28, 2002      Luncheon Discussion on "How Egypt Thinks and Feels at the Embassy of Egypt

Ambassador Nabil Fahmy of the Embassy of Egypt hosted a luncheon discussion on "How Egypt Thinks and Feels" at the Embassy on January 28, 2002 with two prominent Egyptian intellectuals Dr. Ahmed K Aboulmagd and Dr. Milad Hanna. Dr. Aboulmagd is a renowned scholar and writer on Islamic issues, international Jurist and former Cabinet Minister. He also serves as the Arab League Commissioner for Cultural Affairs and Civilizational Dialogue. Dr. Milad on the other hand is a Professor of Engineering at Ain Shams University. He was also a former Parliament member and a writer about religious understanding, particularly in the Egyptian context and between Islam and Christianity. Professor Dr. Osama Zaki, Cultural Counselor and Director of the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau was invited to participate in the lunch discussion.


January 28, 2002 Seminar on "Coexistence of Religions, Faiths and Cultures" at the Meridian House

The Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Meridian International Center hosted a seminar on "Coexistence of Religions, Faiths and Cultures" at the Meridian House on January 28, 2002. January 24, 2002 A delegation from Michigan State University Visits the ECEB

A delegation from Michigan State University visited ECEB on January 24, 2002. Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki, Counselor and Director of the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau in Washington DC met at the ECEB with Prof. Dr. David D. Horner, Director of Strategic Recruitment for International Students and Mrs. Mary M. Gebbia, Coordinator of International Sponsored Student Program. The aim of this meeting was to discuss the possibility of cooperation between the Egyptian universities and MSU.


January 23, 2002   A delegation from Pennsylvania State University Visits the ECEB

A delegation from Pennsylvania State University visited ECEB on January 23, 2002. Dr. Osama Zaki, Counselor and Director of the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau in Washington DC met at the ECEB with Prof. James F. Lynch, Jr., Director of International Students and Scholars, Mrs. Masume Assaf, Assistant Director and Foreign Student Adviser, and Mrs. Mary M. Adams, Assistant Director. The aim of this meeting was to discuss the possibility of cooperation between the Egyptian universities and PSU.

Monday December 3rd 2001 Ramadan For Americans

Celebrating Ramadan holy month , the ECEB invited the American community to a presentation about Ramadan by Prof. Ibrahim Oweiess, President of Council on Egyptian American Relations. The event included Music, Songs, snacks and refreshments typical of Ramadan evenings.


November 13, 2001 International Education for a More Secure World

The Institute of International Education held a special briefing on "International Education for a More Secure World on November 13, 2001 at the National Press Club in Washington DC. Featured during the briefing was the release of the latest data from the "Open Doors 2001:The Annual Report o International Education" and a new mini-survey on the impact of September 11 on international education exchange. The Open Doors include extensive data and analysis on foreign student enrollment and American students studying abroad, the economic impact of foreign students on the U.S. economy, and more. The briefing was held in conjunction with the International Education Week to highlight the report's findings and help focus attention on international education policy. Professor Dr. Osaka Zaki attended the briefing on behalf of the Embassy of Egypt.


November 9, 2001 Third Annual Salute to the Ambassadors

George Mason University held its Third Annual Salute to the Ambassadors on November 9, 2001. Dr. Roger R. Stough presented this year's theme "Greater Washington as Global Gateway." Dr. Stough holds the NOVA Endowed Chair in Public Policy and is the Director of the Mason Enterprise Center, the International Commerce Policy Masters Degree Program and Associate Dean or Academic Affairs at the School of Public Policy. Identified during the event were critical historical, geographical and institutional issues in the Greater Washington Region that has influenced its status as a gateway center. Also examined were the region's role as global public policy making center and its recent history as an immigration gateway. A question and answer period followed the presentation. Professor Dr. Osama Zaki attended the event on behalf of the Embassy of Egypt.


November 6, 2001 Delegation from UMBC visits ECEB

A delegation from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC) visited the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau (ECEB) on November 6, 2001. The purpose of the visit are to discuss the current cooperation on Egyptian Teachers Training Program and the upcoming conference on Sustainable Development in Cairo. The delegation includes Dr. Gregory Williams, Associate Vice-Provost at UMBC, Dr. Nezjat Olia and Ms. Beverly Bickel of the Division of Professional Education and Training. Dr. Osama Zaki had a wholesome discussion with the delegation. Both sides hope that the existing relationship between the ECEB and UMBC would further flourish.


Saturday, November 3, 2001 Egyptian Student Association of North America Convention 2001

The Egyptian Student Association in North America held its 2001 Convention on November 3-4, 2001 at the University of Cincinnati in Ohio. A number of important issues including administrative, bylaws degree recognition and student related issues were dealt with during the meeting. There were also private meetings and open discussions with ECEB Directors. Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki, Director of the Egyptian Cultural Bureau in Washington DC and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Bahaa, Director of the Egyptian Cultural Bureau in Canada attended the convention. At the end of the session, the students elected a new Board for the year 2002.


Monday, October 29, 2001 Public Lecture on "Gender, Language, and Letters in Late Antique Egypt"

The Dumbarton Oaks Byzantine Studies held a public lecture on "Gender, Language, and Letter in Late Antique Egypt" on October 29, 2001. Dr. Roger Bagnall, Professor of Classics and History at Columbia University in New York was the guest speaker during the event. Dr. Bagnall talked on the letters in papyrus surviving from the Hellenistic and Roman Egypt especially the three hundred letters written by women, about 240 in Greek and 60 in Coptic. The lecture tackled the question "Why women stopped writing letters in Greek and what this means for the development of social relations in Byzantine Egypt." Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki was invited and attended the event.

October 27, 2001   Seminar on "potential cooperation between EACA and the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau."

The Egyptian American Cultural Association (EACA) will hold a seminar on "potential cooperation between EACA and the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau." On Saturday, September 22, 2001 at 5:00 PM.  Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki, the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Counselor and Director of the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau will be the guest speaker.  The event will take place at the Carnegie Institute in Washington, DC.


October 15-19, 2001  Egypt's International Economic Forum Visits Washington DC

Mr. M. Shafik Gabr, Chairman of Egypt's International Economic Forum and members of his delegation hosted a reception on the occasion of the Forum's visit to Washington DC at the Four Seasons Hotel on October 17th.  The visit which took place on October 15-19, 2001 aimed at enhancing the relationship between Egypt and the USA.  Recognized and awarded during the reception were several distinguished American personalities for their contribution in the enhancement of US-Egypt relations.  They were Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK), Senator Dianne Feinstein, Representative John Dingell (D-MI), Dr. Stephen Trachtenberg (President, George Washington University).  Accompanying Mr. Gabr during the Forum's visit to Washington DC were Dr. Hossam Badrawi (Chairman of the Board, Nile Badrawi for Investment and Development), and Mr. Motaz Wasel Raslan (President, Raslan Group).  The event was well attended by distinguished American and Egyptian personalities.  His Excellency Ambassador Nabil Fahmy of Egypt and Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki, Cultural Counselor at the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau attended the reception.


Sunday, October 7, 200 Braving the Storm

The Council on American Islamic Relations held its 7th Annal Fundraising Dinner dubbed as "Braving the Storm" on October 7th at the Sheraton Premier, Tysons Corner VA. The event was attended by several Ambassadors from the Arab World and last from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm. Wholesome speeches were delivered by distinguished guests and several awards were granted to well-deserved individuals during the occasion. Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki was invited and participated in the event.


October 6-14 2001 Arabian Sights

Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki, Cultural Counselor and Director of the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau delivered an opening remarks during the celebration of Arabian Sights on October 6, 2001. Presented by the Washington DC International Film Festival and co-sponsored by the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau of the Embassy of Egypt, Arabian Sights is an annual event which features selected films from different Arab countries. This year's initial presentation was "Fallen Angels Paradise", an 80 minutes Egyptian film directed by Oussama Fawzi shown on October 6 and 7th. Arabian Sights runs from October 6 14. All films are subtitled in English and are shown at the Loews Cineplex Foundry Theatres at 1055 Thomas Jefferson Street, NW Washington DC. Arabian sights is programmed and coordinated by Ms Shirin Ghareeb, Assistant Director of the Washington DC International Film Festival. For more details, please call 202-274-5613. October 4, 2001 4th Annual Nature's Best & Cemex International Photography Awards:

Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki, Cultural Counselor attended the 4th Annual Nature's Best & Cemex International Photography Awards that took place at the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of Natural History. Since 1995 Cemex has presented to Washington & the world the publication of critically recognized conservation-themed photography books. Ing. Armando L Garcia, VP of Cemex hosted the event. Mr. Robert Sullivan of the Smithsonian ; Representative Chris Cannon (R-UT) joint the program


September 6, 2001   World Confederation of Productivity Science

The World Confederation of Productivity Science held a session at the Chinese Embassy on September 6, 2001.  The confederation acts as a hub of network f regional and national productivity institutes and organization which has partners in at least 40 countries all over the world, including Egypt.  It is aimed at promoting peace and prosperity through productivity enhancement.  The session at the Chinese Embassy which was attended by around 400 participants was a big success.  Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki was invited and participated in the event as the representative of the Embassy of Egypt.

September 4, 2001   Dua Celebration at the ADAMS Center

The All Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS) held a Dua Celebration for its new project, the building of an Islamic Center with an Islamic School, Mosque and Gymnasium in  Sterling, VA.  Dr. Necmitin Erbakan, Prime Minister of Turkey graced the occasion with a speech before a number of invited guests.  The event also include a tour of the new ADAMS Center site.  Upon the invitation of Dr. Ahmad Totonji, Chairman of the Board and Dr. Mumtaz Khan, President and Member of the Board ADAMS.  Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki, Egyptian Cultural Counselor, attended and participated in the celebration on behalf of the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau.

May 25-27, 2001 Conference on "Sustainable Development"

The George Washington University in cooperation with the Egyptian Cultural and Educational Bureau organized a conference on "Sustainable Development " on May 25-27, 2001 co-chaired by Dr. Salah Hassan and Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki. Aimed at "Sharing Knowledge and Caring About the Future", the conference was held at the Courtyard Marriott in Tyson's Corner Virginia. Dr. James J. Zogby, Founder and President of the Arab American Institute was the Keynote Speaker. The Conference were divided into different sessions, foremost among which are: Role of the Private Sector, Sustenance and Market Competitiveness, Role of NGO's in Sustainable Development, Environmentally Sustainable Development, Strategic Planning and Economic Security, Economic Policy ad Social Responsibility, Sustainable Development of Tourism, and The Future of Education.

May 8, 2001 NATIONAL ARMED FORCES DAY OF THE UAE

Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki has attended the National Armed Forces Day of the United Arab Emirates. Held at the Embassy of the UAE in Washington DC, the event was well attended by dignitaries from the US, Middle East countries and members of the diplomatic community.

The College Board has conducted a briefing on " Advanced Placement International English Language (APIEL). An English Language Proficiency test for non-native speakers in English, the APIEL exam has now been offered for five years to more than 25,000 students from eight countries to demonstrate their readiness to do university level work.

The College Board on the other hand, is the leading nonprofit educational membership association dedicated in preparing, inspiring and connecting students to college and opportunity. The association is composed of more than 3,900 schools, colleges, universities and other educational organizations in the US as well as around the wold. Professor Dr. Osama Zaki, in his capacity as the Cultural and Educational Counselor of the Embassy of Egypt has attended the briefing.


March 27, 2001 Painting Exhibition by Afaf El Abd

Professor Osama Zaki inaugurated the Exhibition of Afaf El Abd's paintings. The theme of the Exhibition is "Daily Life and Its Impact on Man". Dr. Afaf El Abd's paintings show a deep and sophisticated understanding of art theory combined with a complete control of artistic tools.

March 20th 2001 The 26th Annual National Conference on Blacks in Higher Education:

Prof. Dr. Osama M. Zaki, Cultural Counselor attended the 4th Historically Black Colleges & Consortium for Universities (HBCU/MI) Consortium Seminar in which he presented a paper titled " Introduction to The University and Higher Education in Egypt". The Seminar was held during the 26 th Annual National Conference on Blacks in Higher Education that took place at the Hilton Washington Hotel from March 19 to 24 , 2001."

five star hotel in AvignonThe National Geographic Society has hosted a luncheon on honor of Dr. Zahi Hawass, Undersecretary of State, Giza Monuments in Egypt on February 28 during his visit to the United States. H.E. Ambassador Nabil Fahmy of Egypt attended the event. Dr. Osama Zaki was also invited to the luncheon.

 


February 21, 2001 The Arab World and the Bush Administration: Expectations and Realities
Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki attended a luncheon and discussion hosted by the Washington Institute for Near East Policy. The event discussed Arab politics and prospects for a George W Bush Middle East policy. Key speakers were Dr. Ibrahim Karawan, Director of the Middle East Center at the University of Utah and Dr. Shafeeq Ghabra, Director of the Kuwait Information Office and professor of Political Science at Kuwait University.


February 14, 2001 Luncheon Discussion hosted by Kaplan International Programs
Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki was invited to attend a luncheon discussion hosted by Kaplan International Programs. The program include presentations on the courses offered for international students, both in USA and on the Internet and at their overseas centers. There were also short presentations by representatives of several US universities such as Suffolk University, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, New York and Highline Community College.


February 13, 2001 Prospects for Renewed Mideast Peace Talks and the Centrality of Jerusalem
Dr. Osama Zaki was invited to attend the breakfast briefing by Dr. Hanan Mikhail-Ashrawi, Member of the Palestinian Legislative Council and Secretary General of MIFTAH. Dr. Ashrawi talks on "The Prospects of Renewed Mideast Peace Talks and the Centrality of Jerusalem". The briefing hosted by the American Committee on Jerusalem and the Foundation for Middle East Peace was held at the Willard-Continental Hotel on February 13, 2001.

Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki, Cultural Counselor met with Prof. Dr.. Irvin D. Reid, president of Wayne State University at the ECEB. WSU is ranked 3rd in Michigan State in Research , 21st in total students enrollment and the 7th in Higher Education.
Prof. Zaki and Prof. Reid discussed the possibility of developing relationship between Egyptian universities and WSU that was initially discussed with Prof. J. Kay the Assit. Provost for Global Education at WSU..

January 25, 2001 A Life Journey By Roushdi Said
ECEB celebrated the publication of Roushdi Said's autobiography on January 25, 2001. Roushdi Said's life journey was discussed by Professor Osama Zaki Cultural Counselor and Dr. Wagdi Zeid, Cultural Attach. Said's life was full of remarkable achievements. He contributed in many sections of Egyptian society. His books, Geology of Egypt and River Nile are the great masterpieces which Egypt and the world will always remember.

January 18, 2001 Diplomatic Tea for the Embassy Adoption Program:
Mrs. Emiwaty Kuntjoro-Jakti, wife of the Ambassador of Indonesia hosted a diplomatic tea for the Embassy Adoption Program sponsored by the Washington, DC Public Schools and the Women's Committee on Washington Performing Arts Society. January 17, 2001 Art & Commerce in Egyptian Cinema: Rethinking Some Truisms about Periodization.
In collaboration with ECEB, the Egyptian Embassy in Washington organized a lecture on "Art and Commerce in Egyptian Cinema: Rethinking Some Truisms about Periodization". On behalf of His Excellency Ambassador Nabil Fahmy, Professor Osama Zaki introduced the speaker Dr. Walter Armburst and Mrs. Shirin Ghareeb, the commentator.
Dr. Armburst is a Visiting Assistant Professor, Center for Contemporary Arab Studies, Georgetown University. He is the author of Mass Culture and Modernism in Egypt (Cambridge: Cambridge University Press, 1996) and editor of Mass Mediations: New Approaches to Popular Culture in the Middle East and Beyond (Berkeley: University of California Press, 2000). He also published numerous articles and researches on Egyptian cinema.
Mrs. Shirin Ghareeb is Assistant Director of the Washington, DC International Film Festival. She has been with Filmfest DC since 1990 where she coordinates the 12-day annual Festival. Her specific areas of expertise are in films from the Arab World in particular, and the Third World in general. In addition, she has directed a special annual series of contemporary films from the Arab World, called Arabian Sights, since its inception in 1996.

January 7th 2001 Celebration the Coptic Nativity Feast.

January 4, 2001 The 43rd President and the 107th Congress Seminar:

Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki, Cultural Counselor was invited to The 43 rd President and the 107th Congress Seminar held at the Center for the Study of the Presidency. The one day seminar was chaired by David M. Abshire, president of the Center. The seminar discussed the following topics:

1. Strategic Reassessment, Reorganization & Renewal
Major proposal for reorganization will be presented in areas of diplomacy national security and innovation, research and technology. This was presented by Dr. David Abshire, Ambassador Robert Oakley, general E.C. Meyer and Admiral James Watkins.

2 New President, New Congress: Key Issues
Chair: The Honorable Kenneth Duberstein , Senator John Breaux & Senator Chuck Hagel
Medicare & social security, national security and foreign policy, campaign finance reform and major tax cut.

3 Lessons for Success or Failure for the new President
From the Center's recent report, " Triumphs & Tragedies of the Modern Presidency". This was discussed by presidential historian Dr. George Edwards, Director & Distinguished Professor at the Texas A & M Center for Presidential Studies; Dr. James Pfiffner, Professor of Public & International Affairs at George Mason University ; and David Gergen, Harvard Professor of Public Service and Editor at large of U.S. News and world report


December 21, 2000 Celebration of Leilatul Qadr:
Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki, Cultural Counselor invited the Moslem society to the celebration of Leilatul Qadr at the ECEB. The event included a Lecture by Dr. Salah El Sawi Vice President of American open University & Dr. Youssri Hany Professor at Al Azhar University


December 13, 2000 Qur'an And Science:

Qur'an & Science was the title of a lecture given at the ECEB. Three capable professors participated in the lecture. Prof. John Voll, Georgetown University, Prof. Mustafa Ahmed, Director of Islamic Education Foundation in Vallianova; and Dr. Shaker Elsayed. The three professors covered the tolerance of Islam, Jesus in Islam and Qur'an & Science.


November 8th 2000 Lecture by Prof. Roger Allen

Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki Cultural Counselor invited the Egyptian & American Community in the Washington Area to a lecture by Prof. Roger Allen, professor of Arabic Language & Literature, and the Director of Huntsman Program in International Studies & Business at University of Pennsylvania.
The lecture discussed the Re writing of history of the Arabic Novel.


October 30 to November 4,2000: Africa 2000:

The ECEB to the cooperation with the Egyptian Embassy participated in the exhibition at the World Bank & International Monetary Fund.
The ECEB had showed products from Khan EL Khaliliy and Book about tourism in Egypt and its long history, Assigned by Prof. Dr. Osama Zaki, Mrs. Ehsan Tawfik supervised the Egyptian stand.


September 29th 2000 Meeting of the US-Egypt Partnership for Economics Growth & Development:

H.E. Ambassador Nabil Fahmy, Ambassador of Egypt and Prof. Dr. Osama M. Zaki, Cultural Counselor attended the meeting of the Subcommittee on Technology of the US-Egypt Partnership for Economic Growth and Development. The purpose of the meeting was to review progress made in achiev
